Phyllis June Bonawitz passed in the 89th year of her life on Friday, October 30th, at the Harrisburg Hospital. Born in Lykens Township on June 3, 1921, she was the daughter of John Hoover and Anna Strayer Hoover. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Gratz, PA until the last 18 months of her life when she resided at the Polk Assisted Living Care Center in Millersburg, PA.

Phyllis was a graduate of Hegins Township High School and, prior to her retirement, worked for many years at the Dormar Mfg Co. in Gratz. She was married to the late Orville A. Daniel. Following Orville's death in 1975, Phyllis remarried the late Robert O. Bonawitz.

Phyllis loved music and was an accomplished musician, serving as the pianist for several organizations, including the Gratz Historical Society and the Gratz Area Senior Citizens. She also served as the Church Organist for the United Church of Christ and the Lutheran Church in Gratz for many years.

Surviving are her two sons, Kim Douglas Daniel of Harrisburg, PA, and Orville John Daniel of West Chester, PA. Phyllis also enjoyed seven grandchildren - Katy, Julie, Matthew, Alexander, Melissa and Andrew Daniel, and Elizabeth Daniel Meakim.

Services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Simeon United Lutheran Church in Gratz. There will be a Viewing from 9-11 am with the Funeral Service commencing at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Simeon United Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastor Barry Ridge will officiate. A luncheon will be held for family and friends in the Church Social Room following internment.
