Phyllis Y. Scofield, passed away August 14, 2011, at the age of 93. Born in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada, Phyllis came to the United States in 1945 after marrying the love of her life. She was the wife of Roger H. Scofield, both of whom were recent residents at the First Colonial Inn in Virginia Beach and formerly of Kove Estates, Osteen, Florida. Phyllis was pre-deceased by her sisters, Catherine and Vera; and brother, Lloyd. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Roger; son, Lon and his wife Judy; son, Leland and his wife Nancy; grandson, Jeff and his wife Krista; granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband Trevor Clark; granddaughter, Katherine; and four great-grandchildren, Roxanne and Sierra Clark and Mason and Mitchell Scofield. After retiring in St. Johnsville, New York, as co-editor of the Enterprise and News, the area's weekly newspaper, Phyllis and Roger retired to Florida where she spent over 30 of her retirement years enjoying tennis, fishing, golf, singing in large and small choirs and all the community social events. In 2007, she moved to Virginia Beach and enjoyed many activities with her new friends while residing at the First Colonial Inn. A celebration of her life will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454 Thursday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
