Porter J. Shahan Jr. age 82 of Canton, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. He was born on September 5, 1929 to the late Porter and Thelma (Simmons) Shahan in Fairmont, West Virginia. Porter was raised by his grandparents Charles and Delilah Dora Shahan. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Porter retired from the Timken Company in 1990. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and trap shooting. Porter was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers, Charles, George and Raymond Shahan; and Helen Bamberry. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elsie Shahan; three sons, Gary (Elaine) Shahan of Canton, Robert (Elisabeth) Shahan of Alliance and Donald (Betty) Shahan of Canton; six grandchildren, Nena, Kira, Samuel, Eric, Alex and Michael; three step grandchildren, Teresa, Donny and Jason; eight great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Stella Mundell and Dorothy Derigo. Calling hours will be held at the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel ( 801 Pittsburg Ave NW North Canton, Ohio 44720) from 2-5pm on Sunday, August 26. A service will begin at 11:00am on Monday, August 27, at the funeral home.
