Prince Albert Edwards, Jr., 68, of Norfolk, VA, passed away January 11, 2012, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Georgia R. and Prince Albert Edwards, Sr. He was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church where he served on many committees and as a Deacon. He retired from Virginia Beach Public Schools after 38 years of service. He taught at various schools such as Bayside High, Lynnhaven Middle, and Great Neck Middle. He served on many committees with the schools. He had such knowledge of Industrial Arts and wood working that many students wanted to sign up for his classes. They looked forward to building CO2 cars, bird houses and napkin holders. Prince was an expert cabinet maker, woodworker, and boat builder. He was an avid boater, with a love for sailing. He sailed for the ODU sailing club in college. His love of his canoes took him on many trips down the James River. He also loved to fish and hunt. Prince's talents could be seen in many projects and buildings. He helped build Ocean View Fishing Center and Marina with his son, owner Tim Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Joan Williams Edwards; a daughter, Amy Edwards Myers and husband Patrick, a sister, Patricia Ellison and husband Ron, all of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Corinne Smith, Miranda Smith, and PJ Myers, all of Norfolk, VA, Taylor Myers of Michigan, and Ian Edwards, Maddie Edwards, and Camden Edwards, all of Norfolk, VA; brother-in-law, Ronald Williams and wife Karen, mother-in-law, Antoinette Williams, all of Suffolk, VA; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Edwards-Soblotne of Norfolk, VA. He was predeceased by his son, Timothy Craig Edwards. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Ocean View Baptist Church with Pastor Kinnie Dunnavant officiating. There will be a reception in the social hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Prince Edwards, Jr. Scholarship Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.
