Gloucester, VA: Priscilla Balanis Outland, of Gwynn's Island, passed away on May 19, 2012, after a brief illness.
Born in Charlottesville, VA, on February 24, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Ethel A. Balanis, of Williamsburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Daniel Outland.
Priscilla is survived by a brother, George A. Balanis, and his family of Williamsburg, VA. She is also survived by two first cousins, Constantine A. Balanis, and his family, of Mesa Arizona, and George N. Balanis, and his family of Pacific Palisades, California. Priscilla was also loved by many other family and friends, including a special God Daughter, Renee Saur, three step children and three step grandchildren.
Priscilla was a graduate of Newport News High School, Class of '58 and attended the Hampton Roads Business College. She was employed by NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA, for 30 years.
She was a devoted member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Newport News, VA, where she was a member of the Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope, and the Hellenic Women's Penelope Society. She also taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and participated in many Greek festivals and church events.
A Trisagion prayer service officiated by Reverend George Chioros will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 6:30 PM, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, VA. The family will receive visitors at 6:00 PM prior to the prayer service.
