Pura C. Haslip, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was called to join her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 29, 2011. Born on December 8, 1936 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she grew up in New York City from age 8, then relocated to Virginia Beach in 1997. Pura led a challenging, simplistic, yet principled life. A devoted wife and mother, Pura took great pride in raising her children and grandchildren. Clever and resourceful, Pura learned at a very young age to care for herself, earn an honest living, and to care for many others, including her loving husband, David. Together with David, she was a shining example of Christian marriage, and she maintained their home as a beacon of love and warmth to all who visited. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, David; daughters, Desiree Mitchell (Kenneth) and Victoria Adcock (Anthony); her 10 sisters and brothers; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Services in Pura's honor will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011, at The Church of the Holy Family on Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach as follows: 4 p.m. viewing, 5 p.m. rosary, 6 p.m. Mass, with reception to immediately follow. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel is in charge.
