Ralph Conrad "Connie" Poelman, age 80, of Moscow, passed away Tuesday at his home after a lengthy illness. His wife of 24 years, Darleen Kay Beauter Poelman, survives. Born in Rochester, New Hampshire, on February 9, 1931, son of the late Theodore and Helen Poelman, he was a proud and highly decorated United States Air Force Veteran of 28 years. He had served as both a deacon and an elder at various churches and was an active member until his illness made him unable to do so. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, he will be dearly missed. He is also survived by his children, Daniel Pregent of Laconia, New Hampshire, Linda Maddox and husband Dennis of Strong City, Kansas, Rebecca Chaffee and husband Scott of Syracuse, New York, Priscilla Poelman of Simpson, Pennsylvania, Martha Bixler and husband Keene of Moosic, Pennsylvania, and Conrad Poelman and wife Atsuko of Albuquerque, New Mexico; siblings, James Poelman of North Carolina, Miriam Willand of Alabama and Carolyn Bates of Ohio; grandchildren, Dustin Maddox of Strong City, KS, Benjamin Pregent of Laconia, NH, Conrad Chaffee and Allison Tuxford of Syracuse, NY, Declan Bixler of Moosic, PA; and great grandchildren, Dana Elaine and Daxton Edward Maddox of Strong City, KS. Preceding him in death was his former wife of 27 years, Charlotte Isabelle Farrar Poelman; a son, Ralph Conrad Poelman, Jr.; and siblings, Ted, Johnny and Lucille Poelman and Grace Bunt. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at noon in the Moosic Christian Alliance Church, 608 Rocky Glen Road, to be conducted by both Rev. Douglas Jensen, Pastor, and Rev. Timothy Keller; friends are welcome to visit with family at the church prior to the service from 10 am until noon. Private interment will be in Tioga Cemetery, Owego, New York. Memorial contributions may be made in Connie's name to either the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (c/o 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018) or to the Disabled American Veterans (c/o P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250 Attn: Gift Processing). Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
