ELIZABETHVILLE- Ralph L. Smeltz, age 83, of Elizabethvillle passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Harrisburg Hospital. He was born in Elizabethville the son of the late Harvey and Bertha Esterline Smeltz. He graduated from the Elizabethville High School class of 1945. He was a veteran of WWII in the US Army serving with the 622 MP Company and stationed with occupation forces in Japan. He retired after 35 years service at the US Navy ships part control center in Mechanicsburg. Ralph was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethville where he also served as trustee, usher and other various committees, served on the Maple Grove Cemetery Board Association, volunteered with Meals On Wheels and was a lifetime member of Reliance Hose Co. He was the widower of Alma Hawk Smeltz who passed away in November of 2003 and also preceded in death by two brothers Fred "Taxi" Esterline and Ira Esterline. Surviving are niece Anne Fogg of Durham, NC, niece Nancy Tornello and her husband Vince of Charlottesville, VA, nephew Scott Esterline of Byers, TX, niece Helen Esterline Bryan and her husband Tom of Camp Hill, great nephews Nathan Fogg and his wife Lorena and the late Ryan Fogg, Joe Tornello, Tyler Esterline, Tommy Bryan, great nieces Michelle Tornello Shirey, Blythe Esterline, Anne Bryan, Alexa Bryan and Kate Bryan and a special friend Shirley Longabach. The family will receive friends on Saturday July 30 from 1-2 pm at the Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Elizabethville. A memorial service and time of remembrance will begin at 2 pm with words of encouragement from Rev. Nathan Minnich and Rev. Susan Halverstadt. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elizabethville. Donations can be made to Meals on Wheels Clearfield St. Elizabethville, PA 17023 or Reliance Hose Co. 333 W.
