Randall W. "Randy" Barton April 20, 1941 ~ March 4, 2011 Funeral service for Randy Barton, 69, of Somerville, are set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Corby Brizendine officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the members of Lee Scott Masonic Lodge in Somerville in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday with the family present between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Randy died Friday at St. Joseph Regional Health Care in Bryan. He was born in Somerville on April 20, 1941, the son of Wilburn and Sophie Nellie (Brantley) Barton. Randy graduated from Somerville High School in 1959 and married his love, Carolyn Newby on June 24, 1959 by Bro. Collier in Houston. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Berlin crisis. After the service, he worked as a supervisor for the telephone company until his retirement. Randy was a member of Marion Mays American Legion Post #455 of Somerville where he was a past Commander; a member of Lee Scott Masonic Lodge #793 A.F. & A.M. Randy never met a stranger from any walk of life. For all that met that handsome man, with the low southern drawl, they surely will never forget his gift of love. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, as well as a good friend. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn Barton of Somerville; two sons, Greg Barton of Frenstat and Keith and his wife Brenda Barton of Frenstat; his daughter, Tracy Barton of Lincoln, California; his grandchildren, Christopher Barton of Somerville, Briana Brown and Victoria Randall, both of Lincoln, California; his sister, Bonnie Brown of Brenham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosanne and Pat Westfall of Somerville and Janelle and Junior Heiner of Gatesville; along with a host of friends. The Barton family has asked that memorials in Randy's name be made to First Baptist Church in Somerville, The American Cancer Society, or The American Heart Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. We invite you to visit our website at www.stricklandfuneralhomes.com and sign the on-line register book for Randy.
