Ranee' Green Pruitt
March 9, 1946 – December 5, 2011

Ranee' Green Pruitt was born in Sewanee, Tennessee on March 9, 1947 and passed away in Huntsville on December 5, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Pruitt, her sister Henrietta Green, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Green.
Ranee' is survived by her son, James Pruitt, her brother David Green of Sewanee, her aunt Barbara Blevins of Evansville, Indiana, one niece, and two nephews.
Ranee' began her career at the Huntsville/Madison County Public Library in 1967 and has served as the Archivist since the archives department was founded in 1977. Her specialized knowledge of local history has contributed greatly to hundreds of articles, books, and lineage society applications. She was the author of Eden of the South, A Chronology of Huntsville, Alabama, 1805-2005. She was the go-to source for Huntsville history inspiring many local history writers and researchers with her wealth of historical knowledge.
Ranee' served on the board of the Huntsville-Madison County Historical Society, the Huntsville Pilgrimage Board, and the Tennessee Valley Genealogical Society. She was an officer of Hunt's Spring Daughters of the American Revolution, a charter member of John Hunt Morgan United Daughters of the Confederacy, a charter member of Rachel Jackson Chapter, National Society Daughters of 1812, Commissary General of Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge and past Commander of the Alabama Brigade of DVF. She earned numerous awards for outstanding contribution to local history from several organizations, including, among others, the prestigious Martha Washington and Daughters of Liberty medals from the Sons of the American Revolution. In 2010, she was presented the Eminent Librarian Award by the Alabama Library Association.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. Ranee' requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Heritage Room, Huntsville/Madison County Public Library, 915 Monroe Street, Huntsville, AL 35801.
