Ray Lynn Lum September 20, 1940 – September 17, 2011 The Lord has called a good man Home. Ray Lum was born on September 20, 1940, and joined his Savior on September 17, 2011. He was surrounded by the two things that meant the most to him in life – his God and his loving family. A celebration of his life will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Waco, where he has been a member for many years. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 20, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Ray Lum was the son of the late Arthur and Juanita Lum of Annona, Texas. The family moved to Henderson when Ray was a sophomore in high school, and he soon met a beautiful young woman, Jannie Holland. He recognized lasting love when he saw it, and the two of them shared a nurturing marriage for 51 years. Ray was a lifelong retailer. His work ethic, integrity, and even-tempered personality made him a highly successful manager. He spent 30 years with the Bealls organization, and also started his own family retail business in Lufkin. Ray was an avid bowler, accomplished golfer, and huge basketball fan. His love for the games was not just the sport, but also the opportunity they gave him to enjoy spending time with his friends and family. Ray and Jannie spent years together on the lanes and at Lady Bear basketball games, and he loved sharing his knowledge and interest with his children and grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Virginia Robertson and Betty Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Jannie; his son, Mike Lum and daughter-in-law, Susan, of Spring; his daughter, Kathy McGraw and son-in-law, Alan, of Round Rock; and his brother, Glen and sister-in-law, Wanda, of Henderson. He is also survived by four grandchildren who loved him dearly: Brittany and Chris Lum, and Paige and Chase McGraw. The family would like to offer a special thanks to those who were there for Ray in his final years and days. Dr. Christian Cable was a rock to the family. The Hillcrest/Scott & White Hospice Group was a Godsend. Honorary Pallbearers are Chris Lum, Chase McGraw, Charles Killion, Joe Hutyra, William Palasota, John McElfish, Jim Wallace and Clancy Lansford. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WilkirsonHatchBailey.com.
