Ray Ordell Penton, 76, formerly of Liberty, MO passed away June 1, 2011 in Columbia, MO. He was born June 4, 1934 in Macon, Missouri. Ray married Laura A. Garten, February 26, 1956. Ray worked in Ruth, Nevada in the copper mines; returned to Missouri and worked at General Tire and Rubber Company and retired from TWA, July, 1996. He and Laura retired and enjoyed traveling and RVing and settled in Tucson, Arizona, where he became an avid golfer. Ray was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Liberty, MO and an associate member of The Holy Way Presbyterian Church, Tucson, AZ. Ray was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ray Penton and sister Rosemary Cross. Survivors include his wife, Laura A. Penton, daughter, Roma Penton (Jim) Hedrick, his beloved granddaughter, Shelby Penton Bell, sister, Twyla McBeth and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 6 at First Presbyterian Church, Liberty, MO. Visitation will be 1:30 until service time, Monday at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army for Joplin, MO relief, P.O. Box 412577, Kansas City, MO 64141-2577.
