Raymond Hill Wilson

Mr. Raymond Hill Wilson, 88, of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at home surrounded by family. Services in celebration of his life will be held on 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel with visitation to follow the service. Mr. Wilson was born on May 4, 1920 in South Carolina, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Strother Wilson. His beloved wife of 63 years, Pearline, preceded his passing. He was with the US Department of Defense for 34 years. He was the first Cryptographer at Fort Bragg, served the Army in WWII, and then as a civilian at National Security Agency and the Defense Communications Agency. Devoted to a life of service, Ray loved the Lord, the church, his family, the Atlanta Braves, cars, music, and playing the harmonica. He adored his grandson Matthew, and was proud to share his birth month and day with his daughter Debbie. Survivors include his children; Phyllis Wilson, of Apex, NC, Debbie Bowling and husband Mel, of Charlotte; grandson, Matthew Bowling and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials should be made to the Haiti Child Sponsor Fund, South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road, Charlotte, NC 28277.
