Raymond Lee Sears, a long-time resident of Annapolis, died January 9 at his home due to diabetes complications.
Raymond was born August 6, 1942 in Baltimore to the late Raymond and Imelda Sears of Lothian. He attended Annapolis High School and Bowie State College. He retired from NSA in Fort Meade after 33 years as a computer analyst. He served in the U.S. Navy and was on active duty in the Philippines from 1962 to 1964. Later, he was in the reserves until 1970.
Raymond was a faithful member and weekly volunteer of St. Mary's Catholic Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1384 in Annapolis where he held positions of Financial Secretary, Columbus Club Treasurer, Webmaster, and Past Grand Knight; and a member of Elks Club in Annapolis Lodge #622 and the Sons & Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors. Raymond was the Bingo caller at the Knights of Columbus for 40 years every Friday night.
Raymond enjoyed computers, charity works through the Church and Knights of Columbus, bus trips to Atlantic City, coin collecting, black jack and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Rosaria Calabrese Sears; three sons, Raymond and Robert of Annapolis and Richard of Glen Burnie; two brothers, Michael of Panama City Beach, FL and David of Waldorf; sister, Elaine (Sears) Masterton of Cherry Hill, NJ; and four grandchildren, Brooke, Emory, Penelope and Richard.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday and 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Inc., 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. A funeral mass will be held noon, Saturday at St. John Neumann Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Elementary School, Fleur-de-Lis Tuition Angel Fund, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401; the American Diabetes Association; Knights of Columbus Council 1384 Charities, 2590 Solomon's Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037.
