RAYMOND VERNON STRAWN January 13, 1919 ~ February 11, 2012 Raymond Vernon Strawn passed away Feb. 11, 2012 at the age of 93 in Vancouver, WA. He was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Valley Falls, KS to John and Luella Strawn. He grew up on farms in Kansas along with his 9 siblings. Ray joined the Army in 1940. He was assigned with Artillery and saw WWII combat in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. On Aug. 30, 1946, Raymond married Rosella Agnes Kelly at St. James Catholic Church in Vancouver, WA. His working career was with Safeway for 30 years with most of those years being in Tillamook, OR where he very much enjoyed living and retired in 1976. He and Rosella moved to Vancouver, WA in 2003. Ray is survived by his wife, Rosella; daughter, Rae Anne Sheets (Dana); sons, Chris Strawn (Signe) and Ron Strawn; grandchildren, Brent Sheets (Jenni), Kristin Jondahl (Nick), Chad Strawn (Adonia) and Cory Strawn (Traci); great-grandchildren, Alex, Garrett, Madden, Emily, Katherine, Sadie, and Bradley; his sisters, Mildred Agnes Hefty and Juanita Mae Boley; and brother, Marvin Louis Strawn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, William Ellis, John Marion and Francis Leland; and his sisters, Hazel Rebecca Zinn, Rose Marie Bonebrake and Luella Ruth Carson. The family would like to thank the people of Glenwood Place, Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and Manor Care who helped Raymond and his family during his last two months. Viewing will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 15 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. A graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR on Thurs., Feb. 16 at 10:30 a.m. Contributions can be made in Raymond's name to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice .
