View Memorial Tribute

Regina Diane (Chavez) Wyler, also known as Gina to her family and friends, passed away peacefully from illness on February 4, 2012 at the age of 33. She was born on January 12, 1979, to Francine (Sais) Chavez and Ralph Chavez and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM. Gina attended Reginald Chavez Elementary school as a child and is still remembered by many teachers there today. She attended Washington Middle School as well, and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1997 where she was an active member of the JROTC, Musical Theatre and Concert Choir. In March 2001 Gina married her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Julian Wyler. In 2008 Gina received honors from Phi Kappa Phi and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University Of New Mexico with dual degrees in Special Education and Elementary Education. Prior to her illness she was pursuing her Master's of Art in Reflective Practice Degree and was expecting to graduate in June 2012. While attending school she worked at a Montessori School where her children attended. She was also a lactation counselor for the State of New Mexico. After graduation, Gina taught Special Education at Montezuma Elementary School. Gina felt this was her calling in life, and knew that she could make a difference in lives of children. She loved her children and they absolutely adored her as well. Regina was remembered walking thru the hallways of the school with her little ducklings in a row following right behind her. Her time at Montezuma also found her making new friends who have since become important members of our family. Gina is survived by her spouse, Julian Wyler, and their three children; Gabriel Wyler, 10; Daniela Wyler, 7; and Samuel Wyler, 20 months. She is also survived by her mother, Francine (Sais) Chavez; father, Ralph Chavez and wife, Maria; brother, Anthony Chavez; sister, Antonela Chavez; grandparents, Sam and Gladys Sais and Ida Chavez; cousins, Michelle Sais-Lucero and husband, Anthony; Crystal Sais and husband, Jonathon Shea, and Carlos Sais; aunt and uncle Jessie and Fred Sais; sister-in-law, Christine Wyler; father-in-Law, Louie Wyler and wife, Viola; aunt, Linda Lucero; uncles, Gary Chavez, Kenneth Chavez, Brian Chavez; her students at Montezuma Elementary School and many dear friends and family. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Vickie Wyler and grandfather, Ralph Chavez, Sr. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 10, 2012 at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 9:00 am at the Shrine of the Little Flower St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Parish located at 3424 Fourth St NW, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Pallbearers are Carlos Sais, Anthony Lucero, Jonathan Shea, Enrique Solano, Michael Andrade and Brian Butler. Honorary Pallbearers are Gary Chavez, Kenneth Chavez, Brian Chavez and Daniel Barraza.
