Dear Gina,

The day you were born was the most beautiful day of my life and it changed me forever. Be proud that you were created of pure love. When I held you in my arms for the very first time I saw the face of an angel straight from heaven. Your eyes, nose, mouth and ears were so precious and you had the tiniest little fingers and toes. I knew then that you were a miracle from God and with that came a great responsibility.

I made a promise to you that I would care for you the best way I could and never let anyone ever hurt you. As you grew I saw that you had a uniqueness all your own. You were kind and gentle and you had a silly personality which always put a smile on people’s faces. You were wise beyond your years and used that wisdom to encourage people to be the best that they could be. You loved your children beyond comprehension and you always had a special love for Jesus.

As a little girl you were always entertaining people. You would command them to sit down, “Criss Cross, Applesauce” style and you would sing and dance for them. You would always end your performance by taking a huge bow and stating “Thank you very much!”

Christmas was always a special time. We would do the traditional decorating, shopping and baking. Every year we would drive around the city admiring the brightly decorated houses, drinking hot chocolate or eggnog shakes and singing Christmas Carols.

I was always so proud of you in school. You were always an “A” student and you never got into trouble (that I know of).

As you went into Middle School I worried because I knew it could be very easy for a teenager to go astray. I always encouraged you to be a leader and pull those friends that you loved to follow you to the right path instead of following to the wrong path. I learned then that I had to place you in God’s Hands with Faith and Prayer to keep you safe and bring you home to me every day. Thank you for making your teenage years mild for me.

In high school I enjoyed your performances in musical theatre and concert choir especially when you sang your solos. I remember one time when you got on stage to sing, you looked directly into the audience at me for assurance. I sat up very tall and I raised my head up high with confidence and I saw you mimic my posture and you proceeded to sing. God gave you a beautiful voice which also served to lull your baby’s to sleep.

I remember our many celebrations such as holidays, birthday parties, your First Holy Communion, your Confirmation, your high school graduation and your college graduation. You went to Washington, D.C. with your school when you were in the eighth grade and Costa Rica when you were 18. We were fortunate to travel to places like California, Colorado, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee, Arkansas, Puerto Vallarta and many other places. I had a lot of admiration for you because you always lived life as if every day was a celebration.

At the age of 22 you came home and announced that you were getting married. You and Julian were best friends and you knew each other since you were 16 years old. Grandpa Sam and I were so honored to walk you down the aisle for your beautiful celebration of Unity. I know that you and Julian had a very special love and he knows that the love crosses the Heavens.

Two days after Christmas 2001, Gabriel Anthony was born. That was such a special day. Gabriel had to remain in the hospital for 13 days after he was born and I saw you experience a mother’s pain. You were constantly at the hospital day and night and you did not rest until you were able to bring him safely home with you. He is your “first born son” which carries a very special meaning. I know that you loved him from the moment he was born and he has always made you very proud. I am sure that he will continue to make you proud.

In September 2004 we were blessed with a little Angel named Daniela Grace. Daniela is so much like you. She has a contagious smile and takes hold of life and enjoys every moment. Every night before bedtime Daniela would say her prayers and you would fill her little hands with kisses. She knows that now your kisses are even more special because they are coming straight from Heaven and they will always fill her hands with abundance.

In June 2009 Samuel Aaron was sent to brighten our lives. Papa Sam is so honored that he is named after him and it couldn’t fit him better. Samuel is so friendly, so silly and so filled with energy. He loves people and loves to make people laugh. He is your baby boy and I promise that he will know you through me, through the rest of the family and through all those who love you.

The kids know that God needed you in Heaven to help make it a better place. They know that you are with them in their hearts and that you can watch over them more closely from Heaven. They know that you will come to them in their dreams and that they can talk to you anytime they wish and that you will always be listening for them. They also know that it is okay to miss you but that you want them to be happy and enjoy their lives. I will also make sure that I am here for Julian because we are a family.

In November 2010 when the doctor told you that you were sick I promised you that I would be with you through every step of this journey. I am so sorry that you had to go through so much pain and I wanted so desperately to help you. I know that you were not ready to leave this life and those you loved but be proud of yourself. You remained so strong and you touched so many lives along the way. Because of your strength you gave us a chance to say what we needed to say. You were chosen by God because he knew that by your passing you would bring out the best in people. This was witnessed by the fact that so many people came forward with prayer, kindness, generosity, love, unity and faith and is a testimony to how well you lived your life. The journey is not over for there is so much work to be done.

We were always a team – you and me. Rest assured my beautiful daughter that your children will be well taken care of. My promises to you extend to them and the journey continues. Thank you for making my life so valuable and I surely miss you. Our time together went by so fast. Your faith in God, your kind heart, your beautiful smile and your genuine tenderness has captured everyone’s heart and for that I am proud. It is time again to place you with Faith and Prayer into the Hands of God until we meet again. Come and see me from time to time in my dreams too. I love you always and forever.

My heart and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. When I talked with you on the day of the Rummage Sale at Montezuma, I noticed how strong you were, and it touched my heart. You are an inspiration to those who are going through difficult times. I will do my best to help Daniela in any way I can. I feel blessed to know and work with you.

I worked with Gina for 3 years when I was occupational therapist at Montezuma, first when she was a student teacher and later when she was the teacher of many of my students. I remember her sweetness, her dedication and caring, and what a great person she was to collaborate with. It is hard to imagine that she is gone.
