Reldon Leo Ryan (Rusty), 86, was born on August 12, 1925 to Esther (Hurley) Ryan and Eugene Francis Ryan in Conway, Iowa. Esther and Eugene traveled west to Raton, New Mexico in a Ford Model-T in 1928, when Reldon was two. Reldon played basketball for Raton High, eventually joining the Navy. He served our country in WWII on the Navy base in Pearl Harbor as an aircraft gunner. He married Alice Mildred Houston, his wife and companion of 64 years. He retired as assistant agent from the AT&SF Railroad after 36 years of service. Reldon and Alice traveled extensively throughout the country in their motor home. Reldon is survived by his daughter Catherine Ryan Massey and his three grandchildren, John (Jack) Wesley Massey of Albuquerque, Molly Catherine Massey of Vail, Colo., and Karli Ryan Mildred Massey of Long Beach, Calif. 'Rusty' went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2011 and will be greatly missed and loved always by those who knew him. He led an honest, good, and hard working life and was a wonderful role model for his daughter and grandchildren. It is with very heavy hearts that we say farewell to 'Rusty', dad and grandpa. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday. November 22 at French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd NE at 11:00 a.m., followed by services at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe where his ashes will be interred.
