Edward McGrath and Reverend Mr. Jason Kern; Reverend Mr. Pat Fagan officiating and with the clergy of the Diocese of Winona. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 8th at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd.) and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A wake service will take place at 7:45 pm at the funeral home on Friday.
Renee was born in Owatonna to Roger and Mary (Thayer) Sorenson on June 14th, 1962 and was raised in rural Medford. She attended Medford schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1981. Renee was the 4th of 6 children in her family which includes: Gary (Peggy) Sorenson of Corpus Christi, TX; Sherri (and Dave) Paustian of New Hampshire; Perry (& Deanna) Sorenson of Janesville, WI; Kris Sorenson of Rochester, MN; and Michele Anderson of Corpus Christi, TX. Renee kept close relationships with her siblings who she deeply loved and especially remained close to her loving mother, Mary Sorenson of Faribault. Renee was given in marriage to Harlan Kern of Owatonna on June 4th, 1983. They resided in Owatonna, MN where they raised their two children: Nicholas (fiancée Michele Nelson of Waseca) and Deacon Jason Kern. They attended St. Joseph Catholic Church as a family and the children attended Saint Mary's Catholic School, Owatonna. Renee retained a deep faith in God throughout her entire life. Renee loved being with her family so very much and always looked forward to spending time with them. She valued this more than anything on this earth. Renee was a lover of animals including horses from her days on the farm and her dogs throughout her whole life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and an active member of AA. Renee battled numerous chronic illnesses throughout the last 12 years and spent much time at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The family is extremely grateful for all the services and tender care both the Owatonna area hospital and especially the Rochester Mayo Clinic and St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester provided and Gold Cross EMS. Renee loved life and found herself very happy nearly all the time. Though suffering, she never complained about her health problems, but instead faced them with great strength and courage day by day. She was courageous even in the face of death and her great peace in the final days was a great consolation to the family. Renee is preceded in death by her Father, Roger Sorenson of Faribault. Memorial are preferred to the family choice, St. Mary's School or St. Joseph Church. Arrangements completed with the Brick-Meger Funeral Home.
