Mr. Richard A. Buss of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Sunday December 26, 2010 at Golden Living Center-Countryside in LaPorte. He was born June 30, 1935 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of William J. Buss and Opal (Chapman) Buss. Richard was as a teacher for LaPorte School System for thirty years, retiring 1992, he also worked at LaPorte Hospital for fifteen years as a courier. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Richard enjoyed walking, reading, politics, crosswood puzzles. He was a Cubs and Indiana University Basketball fan. Richard especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.. On July 20, 1968, in LaPorte, he married Linda Hawn Buss who survives. He is also survived by his three daughters - Amy Wiles of Mishawaka, IN, Carrie (Jeff) Miser of Union Mills, IN, Erin (Craig) Toth of Union Mills, IN; four grandchildren - Abby (Sam) Demonkos of Valparaiso, IN, LuAnn Wiles of Hobart, IN, Emily Toth of Union Mills, IN, Ethan Toth of Union Mills, IN; two sisters - JoAn (Paul) Graham of LaPorte, IN, Dottie Sue (Matt) Gansemer of Rolling Prairie, IN. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Dean Buss. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A private family service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jo Ellyn Chadwick officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association 1275 "K" St. NW Suite 1050 Washington, DC 20005.
