A retired educator was born in Jackson, LA and passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge after a long illness. He served and defended our nation during the Korean War as a corpsman on the USS Higbee and the San Diego Naval Hospital. He was a dedicated educator for 33 years for the East Feliciana and St. James Parish School Boards.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Barefield Turnipseed; daughter, Mimi Monica Denova and her husband, Ricky; son, Roy M. Monica and his wife, Xioayun Pan Monica; grandchildren, Kristi Hendry, Lacey H. Alexander, Derek Hendry, Kelsey Gagliano, Camille, Amanda and Sarah Monica; great-grandchildren, Aiden Gaspard and Maci Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Reid and Frank L. Turnipseed; six sisters, Kathryn Moore, Alwilda Fletcher, Blanche Tomb, Dorothy Turnipseed, Florence Townsend and Marjorie Nell Turnipseed; four brothers, Frank Lee, Cornelius, John Allen and Maxwell Turnipseed.
