Richard C. "Dick" Pohlabel Sr., 87, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at The Ohio State University Wexner Center. He was born January 3, 1926 in Lima to Clarence N. and Helen Lucille (Lance) Pohlabel, who preceded him in death. Dick married the love of his life, Clara E. Shoemaker Pohlabel on May 1, 1943. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2003. Mr. Pohlabel retired in 1977 after 30 years of service from Lima State Hospital. He also drove bus for Lima City Schools, Bath and Marimore Industries. Dick worked many years for Chiles – Laman Funeral Homes, sang in the Lima Bean Chorus for 47 years and was a member of VFW Post #1275 and Forest Park United Methodist Church. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during WWII. Dick and Clara were blessed with 3 children, son, Richard C. "Dick" (Shaire L.) Pohlabel Jr; of Bellville, daughter, Helen E. (Dave) Gross, of Spencerville, son, Charles E. "Eddie" Pohlabel, who preceded him in death, 9 grandchildren, Jacqueline L. "Jackie", Kris Alan, Richard C., Paul Michael, Martin William and wife Glenda, Pamela, Steven, Kristen, Missy and husband Rick, several great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson, special nephew, Daniel Brown, and several other nieces and nephews, brother, Clarence "Bud" (Betty) Pohlabel, of Port St. Lucie, FL., and his beloved canine friend "Tinker Toy". He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. Polabel, sister, Mary Elaine Bodiker and a grandson, Matthew John Riesbeck. Friends may call from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday September 24, 2013 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Services will begin 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 25, 2013 at the funeral home. Pastor Timothy Benjamin will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will follow the burial at Forest Park United Methodist Church. Military rites by VFW #1275 and the United States Navy.
