Richard Donald Petran, 70, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Born in Bellaire, OH, to the late Charles and Geneva Petran, Richard was retired Virginia Beach Public School teacher and formerly taught at Coshocton County School System in Coshocton, OH. He was a member of Neffs United Methodist Church in Neffs, OH. Richard was an avid sportsman, active in golfing and skiing and in his retirement he assisted Lynnhaven Middle School with their track meets. He is survived by his wife, Susan J. Petran; son, Charles Petran and wife Jin Kim, and granddaughter, Susan Petran, all of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by several cousins, aunts and uncles. The family would like to thank Dr. George Saman and his wonderful staff of Lake Wright Oncology Center with special thanks to his nurse, Tammy Proctor. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or the Animal Assistance League in Chesapeake or the charity of your choice.
