Richard "Dick" Blom died Friday, January 20, 2012 in Orlando, FL. He was born May 15, 1944 in Effingham, IL to Gilbert and Della (nee Dust) Blom. He lived in Effingham until he graduated from Effingham High School in 1962. He then joined the U.S. Navy eventually becoming an air traffic controller. He and his wife Terri (nee Walters) Blom met while working together at Trans World Airlines in St. Louis and married in 1968. Dick graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1973. He and his family moved to Largo, Florida in 1977 to escape the cold mid-west winters. For many years, Dick was the food service manager at the manufacturing plant of a major defense contractor in St. Petersburg, FL. Upon retirement in 2005, Dick and his wife moved to Orlando, FL to be close to their daughter Christine Callahan, her husband Owen and children Owen, III and Connor. Dick was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winter Park, FL. Dick is also survived by his sister Kay and her husband Larry Barns, his sister Mary Davis, his sister-in-law and brother- in-law, Judy and Dick Hauser, his brother-in-law, David Walters and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Dick was considered a "good guy" by all who knew him and always put others first.
