Richard Jozef Carr, known as Dick, was born December 1, 1939 in Ivanhoe, MN to Thomas and Theresa (Sovell) Carr. He was raised and educated in Ivanhoe and Marshall, MN, Beaver Dam, WI and Chicago, IL. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps Dec. 6, 1956 to Oct. 27, 1959. Dick was united in marriage to Joan Colburn May 18, 1963 in Marshall, MN. They lived in Marshall until moving to Mankato where he graduated from Mankato State College in 1967. He worked for National Poly Products in Mankato until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1972 when they purchased Neitzke Concrete Products and changed the name to CarrCrete. In 2012, he was named the lakes area realtor of the year.Dick treasured his time with his family and proudly attended his children's and grandchildren's activities. He especially treasured being referred to by his grandchildren as "Grandpa Duck". He enjoyed traveling with friends especially to Hawaii and Mexico. He loved hunting, especially the trips to Camp O-Me-Mee with his hunting buddies; participating in sports collectables shows, running the Detroit Lake "Ice-out" competition each year and keeping track of the "daily winner" for the 10 o'clock coffee group. Dick was a passionate reader, and was honored that he was a winner of the veteran's elk hunting trip to Cortez, Co. He also loved to tinker and enjoyed helping others on a regular basis. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to play unique practical jokes.
