Richard L. Olney, II, 58, of Mohawk, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012, at his home with his loving family by his side. Richard was born on June 27, 1954, in Utica, the son of the late Richard L. and Audrey L. Olney formerly of Yorkville. He was married to Barbara J. Chapple on July 12, 1975. Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and also served in the National Guard. Through his love and passion for comic books, Richard found the West Utica Comic Club, which successfully transformed into the Organized Readers of Comics Associated, or ORCA for short. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the NRA. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Olney of Mohawk, and five children, Richard L. Olney III and his wife, Jessica; Christopher Olney and his wife Jessica; Starr Lynn Olney-Pfluke and her husband, Richard; Timothy Olney and Nelson Olney. Seven grandchildren, Anthony, Gage and Zackary Olney, Ashley and Juliana Olney, James Collins and Alyssa Matthews. A special sister, Darleen Olney and a special family friend, Dick Mosseau. The family would like to thank Dr. Sara Grethlein, the nursing staff at Bassett Cancer Center and Hospice Palliative Care for all the special care that was extended to Richard. A service will be on Wednesday at 1:30 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main St., Whitesboro. There will be no calling hours. Friends may consider donations to Hospice or Bassett Cancer Center, Herkimer, in memory of Richard.
