Richard Pierce , age 83 of Venice, Florida, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2010. He was born on October 3, 1926 in Chauncey, Ohio. He graduated from Chauncey High School in 1942 and lettered in six sports. He then joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 followed by his enlistment in the U.S. Army where he served as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. After his discharge he studied to become a Linotype operator. He ultimately opened his own printing company in Northern Virginia, C.S.I. and was chosen as Businessman of the Year in Northern Virginia. He sold the company and retired at age 60 and was an ardent golfer. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Rona (Feldman) of Venice; grandson, Chase (Angie) Herdman of Ft. Worth, Texas; two great-granddaughters and son-in-law, Glenn Glover of Dunkirk, Maryland. Also surviving are his step-children, Debra (Irwin) Oler of Chicago, Illinois, Lawrence Allen of Albany, New York and Andrew (Elizabeth) Cohen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children, Keith Herdman and Dee Glover. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 10:00AM-12:00PM at Farley Funeral Home in Venice.
