Richard Raymond Smith, age 82 of Aberdeen died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in Harford Memorial Hospital. The beloved husband of Ruth Ann Smith. Born in Petersburg, NE to the late Henry and Martha Smith. Survived by a brother, Gerald Smith and wife Lodavina of Omaha, NE; a sister, Doris Mohr of Papillion, NE; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, Edward Smith and a sister, Patricia Figgins. Mr. Smith served in the US Army for over 22 yrs including the Vietnam War, retiring with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, the VFW and the American Legion all in Aberdeen. In retirement he loved traveling, especially overseas by airplane. Family will receive friends in the family owned Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, P.A. of Aberdeen on Sunday, September 25 from 2-5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Fr. William P. Foley will be celebrated Monday, September 26 at 10am in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 257 S. Law St, Aberdeen. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 222 S. Law St, Aberdeen, MD 21001 and/or the charity of ones choice.
