Richard Steve Cooper, 67, of High Peak Mountain Rd., Valdese, departed this life to his heavenly home on Tuesday January 19, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte following a brief illness.
Richard was born on June 22, 1942 in Burke County to the late John Cooper and Lillian Nichols Cooper. He was a United States Navy Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a retired Postman at the Morganton Post Office. He was also a member of Community Baptist Church of Drexel where he was a deacon and church treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Franklin Cooper of the home; his daughter, Tracy Cooper Chapman and husband Tracy of Morganton; his son, Scott Cooper and wife Lisa of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Halee Leger, Logan Chapman, Hunter Cooper, Parker Cooper; step-grandchildren, Taylor McQuary and Justin McQuary; one brother, Mike Cooper and wife Fran of Valdese; two sisters, Johnnie Cooper Brown of Hickory and Wanda Fisher of Valdese. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday January 21, 2010 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Webb and Rev. Donald Willis. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post 48 of Hickory.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
