Richard Wayne "R. W." Johnson, 80, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and family man, of Beach City was born June 5, 1928 in Long Beach, CA and passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at his home. He attended Chanute Junior College in Chanute, KS, where he played on the basketball team, attended Kansas State University and was a 1958 graduate of the University of Houston with a B. S. in Industrial Engineering. In 1973, he formed the R. W. Johnson Construction Company and developed the Cotton Lake Estates subdivision and R. W. J. Airpark. After retiring from the construction industry, he continued to oversee the airport operations. He was a former six year member of the Barbers Hill School board and active in church all of his life. He was a member of the Mont Belvieu Assembly of God Church. He was also a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He held a private pilot's license and was a member of A. O. P. A.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard Morris Johnson; brothers, Jim Johnson and Glenn Johnson; and sister, Bonnie Jean Zadrozny. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Fannie Johnson, son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Debbie Johnson and daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Johnson and Mindee and Wes Klinger, all of Beach City; sisters, Leila Mae Williams of San Angelo and Bonita Tucker of Parsons, KS; brothers, Marvin Johnson of Springfield, MO and Howard Johnson of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Kendall and Regina Johnson, Paul Klinger, Becky Johnson, Jonathan Klinger, Klaire Moss and Lauren Klinger; and great grandchildren, McKenna Johnson and Alyson Johnson.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, March 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Maranatha Church, 12319 Hwy 146, Mont Belvieu, TX 77580 with Pastor Donald Gibson and Dr. Dudley Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery with Rev. Don Young officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and Wes Klinger, Jim Farmer, Jim Kubik, and Monte Layman.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Mont Belvieu Assembly of God Church Building Program, P. O. Box 40, Mont Belvieu, TX 77580.
