Richmond Gerard "Gerry" Favrot, Captain, USNR-R passed away on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012, at the age of 74 of cancer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Suzanne Katherine Bruck Favrot, his daughters Anne Bruck Favrot (formerly Mrs. Lutz Riester) and Martha Favrot Heausler, her husband Richard Scott Heausler, his grandson Alexander R. Favrot Riester, his sister Marie Favrot McLellan, her husband John Allan McLellan, and their children, John Richmond McLellan and Susan Leslie Favrot McLellan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Richmond Favrot and Dorothy Stone Gamble, and his brother Henry Gamble Favrot. Born in New Orleans, LA, he graduated from Isidore Newman School and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Following graduation he served on active duty with the United States Navy from 1960-1962, later serving for 25 years in the United States Naval Reserve, retiring at the rank of Captain. After active duty, he married and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he worked at Whitman, Requardt and Associates as professional engineer. He also attended the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served as the Chancellor of Gamma Eta Gamma fraternity. He was a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar Associations as well as The Engineers Club of Baltimore. His family returned to Louisiana in 1969 where he continued his career as a professional engineer and executive with Stewart Enterprises, Inc. He later founded his own engineering and construction firm, which served the needs of many communities in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. During his lifetime he was a registered professional engineer in numerous states. He served as president of Historic Highland Cemetery Board. He helped to revive the New Orleans chapter of the University of Virginia Alumni Club. He also helped to organize the Tau Upsilon Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Tulane University. He served as the Deputy Treasurer General of The Order of the Founders and Patriots of America and as Governor of the Louisiana Society of the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America, was a member of the Society of the War of 1812, and past member of the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, as well as a member of several carnival organizations. However, during hunting season he was rarely found in town.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church, at 1315 Jackson Avenue, on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at noon. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m. Please join the family following the service at the Parish House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Historic Highland Cemetery , Inc. in Baton Rouge, Trinity Church, The John Quincy Adams Foundation or one of the scholarship funds for children of military families lost in battle.
