Rita Jane Jacobs 87, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday August 16, 2012 at HCR Manorcare Health Care Services in Kingsford. She was born on April 29, 1925 in Kingsford, daughter of the late Otto and Ida (Christian) Leger. She attended the Kingsford Schools, graduating from Kingsford High School in 1942. Rita married Vernon Jacobs on April 29, 1944, and he preceded her in death in July 2002. She was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. She was a very active member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rita was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella. She loved to travel, was a wonderful homemaker, and had a wonderful life. Despite her failing health and macular degeneration, Rita maintained a beautiful attitude and a great sense of independence and humor.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy Jacobs Neuens and her brother, Vernon Leger.

Rita is survived by her sons, Gary Jacobs of Albuquerque, NM, and Doug (Rhonda) Jacobs of Aurora, WI, and a daughter, Debbie Jacobs of Chetek, WI; 5 grandchildren Derick VanPembrook, Kelly VanPembrook, Chad (Melissa) Jacobs, Amanda (Mark) Sanicki, Brent Neuens; 5 great grandchildren, Logan and Makayla and Isabelle Jacobs, Mallory and Bristol Sanicki

The visitation will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. The funeral Mass will follow at 5:00 pm at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
