Robert A. Devine, "Mr. D," 91, of Marquette, passed away Thursday morning, November 3, 2011 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Mr. Devine was born on March 5, 1920 in Marquette, a son of the late Arthur and Rose (Nault) Devine. He attended the former Graveraet High School, later serving two years with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 78th Infantry Division, 310 Regiment. After his military service, he spent 40 years in car repair service for the Duluth South Shore & Atlantic Railroad, Soo Line, retiring in 1980. Bob was a life member of the Marquette Elks Lodge as well as a longtime member of American Legion Post #44 and the Marquette Golf Club. Survivors include two children, Patricia (Donald) Martin of Leesburg, FL and Robert S. (Bonnie) Devine of Marquette; four grandchildren, Michael Devine, Stacey Devine, Kristine Dougherty and Kim Bueso; seven great grandchildren, Megan, Conor, Ryan, Maya, Nick, Alexander and Andru; two sisters, Betty Walton of Ann Arbor and Lois Bur of Albuquerque, NM; a sister-in-law, Betty Millward of Allen Park, MI; also several nieces and nephews. Preceding Bob in death besides his parents and step-father, Julius Nault, was his beloved wife, Evelyn in 2010 and a sister, Mary Lou Louis. According to Bob's wishes a private family service will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens Mausoleum. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookridge Heights Assisted Living and Lake Superior Hospice for the excellent care given to Bob during his illness. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider the Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 in Mr. Devine's memory.
