Robert A. McKinney
Greenville, SC

Robert Andrew McKinney, 86, died October 20, 2011 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville in 1925, he was a son of the late Perry League and Ostie Garrett McKinney. He is survived by his wife, Wilma McJunkin McKinney.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Jennie Finley McKinney, who died in 2005, and they had three children: Terry (Charles) Gentry, Carol (Kinard) Johnson, and Andrew (Maria) McKinney. Also surviving are a brother, Ansel McKinney; one sister, Virginia Putman; five grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Ashley Dill, Kelly Weekes, Margaret Lanahan and Jennifer McKinney; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry McKinney.

Mr. McKinney served in the Army during World War II and took advantage of the GI Bill when he returned home. He was the owner of McKinney's Gulf Service Station and Fuel Oil Service in the Augusta Road/Donaldson area for many years before his retirement. He was an active member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church and served as a deacon and on various committees.

He was a warm and caring person who could build or fix anything. He was loved and admired by his family, friends, neighbors and customers.

Visitation will be at the home of Terry and Charles Gentry, 100 East Tallulah Drive on Sunday, October 23rd from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Monday morning at 11:000 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens with Dr. Dan Vincent officiating.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Mark O'Rourke and Open Arms Hospice Nurse Betty Strawhorn for their warm and caring concern.
