Bob was born on August 10, 1925 to Lewis and Mabel Mitchell in Portland, OR. He died of heart failure on April 2, 2011. He attended Jefferson High School and graduated in 1943. He then attended the University of Oregon in the V-12 program and was a lifetime member of Alpha Tau Omega. He later served in the Marine Corps as a second lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. Bob started with Connecticut Mutual and for 30 years served as agent and ending as General Manager. In 1950 he married Mary Carol Merrifield and they had three children, Molly, Amy and Jim. They later divorced. He changed careers in 1980 and delved into the banking industry and became a Vice President in the trust division and served on the board for Bank of America. Prior to retiring, he married Marlene Bayless in 1983. She pre-deceased him. Bob was an avid golfer (he was very proud of this five holes in one!), fisherman and Ducks and Blazers fan. He belonged to Oswego Lake Country Club and then joined Waverly Country Club where he served as President. He then enjoyed playing golf at Charbonneau Country Club. He loved Palm Springs as was a member of the historic O’Donnell Country Club where he rubbed elbows with Bob Hope. Bob is survived by his children, Molly Shoaf (John), Amy Ivie (Dan) and Jim and his sister Marilyn Eastburn. He is also survived by his cherished partner, Sally Miller, and her children Brad, Martha and Bruce. Additionally, his stepchildren, Molly, Sally, Rick, John and Joanne. He will be missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At his request, no service will be held. A family gathering to celebrate his life is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Children’s Course, Gladstone, OR or charity of your choice. “I did it my way”
