Robert Hopes
“Bob the Duke”

Born June 3, 1938 to George A and Evelyn Holden Hopes in Salem, Utah. Bob and his family moved to Salt Lake City at a young age.

Bob worked in the construction industry; he was a hardworking and skilled operator on all types of equipment but especially his beloved backhoe. He worked for Rapp Construction for over 25 years and then operated his own business, “Bob Hopes Excavating”, for a number of years. He was a generous neighbor who was never too busy to lend a hand and the use of his equipment and skills.

In his later years he enjoyed fishing, camping and planting his garden. He loved his new Kabota tractor.

He married Eleanor Webb, December 14, 1968 and along with her three children, and his three children, together they raised their family in West Jordan, for their 42 years together.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis, son Ronnie. Survived by his wife Eleanor, West Jordan, son Robert L. Hopes (Sue), daughter, Sheryl (Thomas) Rees, Coalville, and sons, Jerry Hopes, Brian and Todd Willden, Salt Lake City. Also 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Brothers, Dick, Larry, Ken and sister, Carol.

Dad was known by those who knew him as a man with a rough exterior that surrounded a heart of gold. We will miss you Dad who lived and taught us responsibility, hard work and being true to your word.

A viewing will be held Wed from 6-8pm and Funeral service Thurs at 11am with a viewing one hour prior, All services will be held at LDS Mountain View 1st Ward, 8825 So. 3200 W. in West Jordan. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 So. in Cottonwood Heights.
