Robert "Bob" Charles Curnow passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2012, in Stockton, California of natural causes.
He lived to be a glorious 89 years old and was Born on March 21, 1922 to Clinton and Ella Curnow of Stockton and owners of Curnow's Bakery. He lived his entire life in Stockton. Bob graduated from Stockton High School and later served his country in WWII as a torpedo's mate by enlisting in the US Navy. He worked in the bakery and meat market and later opened his own meat market in Village Oaks Shopping Center where he worked until he retired in 1984. He enjoyed his work, especially his customers, and always had a part-time job after retiring doing the same work. Bob attended Stockton High, and in his youth was quite the tap dancer
He married Betty S. Curnow in 1964 and they enjoyed 41 years together until her death in 2005. She was the love of his life and his partner on the golf course. They were long time members of Elkhorn Golf and Country Club.
In 1979 he became a grandfather to Casey Cumming followed shortly by Duffy Cumming who called him "Boboo" ever since. They were properly spoiled by him for several years and he taught them how to golf. Casey lives in Stockton. Duffy lives in Long Beach. Bob has continued the spoiling tradition with his grand nieces Elyssa and Mallory Simpson of Stockton.
Bob was preceded in death by Betty, his daughter-in-law Patti Cumming, and his brother Donald Curnow. He is survived by his son, Gary Curnow and his wife, Vicki of Stockton; step-sons, Jim Cumming of Stockton and Tom Cumming and wife, Marie Antoinette of San Francisco; grandsons, Casey Cumming and Duffy Cumming; sister, Barbara Seekatz; niece, Susan Christie and husband, David Simpson; and grand-nieces Elyssa and Mallory Simpson.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
A special thanks to the staff and residents of Atria Bayside Landing Senior Living for providing a loving home for Bob during the last months of his life and allowing him to remain forever "young at heart".
There will be no visitation, DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA in charge of arrangements.
