Robert David Grigg, 74, died Sunday, October 9, 2011, at Somerford Place, Annapolis, after a long illness of Parkinson's disease and Lewy Body Dementia. David was born August 26, 1937, in Shelby, NC, to the late Dargan Evans Grigg and the late Margaret Ruth Gold Grigg.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Rebecca Adams Grigg of Annapolis, son Robert Brian Grigg of Annapolis, and daughter Sara Katherine Grigg of Alexandria, VA. Also surviving is his brother Roger Evans Grigg of Myrtle Beach, SC. His sister Elizabeth Grigg Gruber and his brother Harold Grigg preceded him in death.
David graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BSEE in 1959, and from Drexel University earning an MSEE in 1964. His thirty-six year career began at RCA in Moorestown, NJ, where he worked on radar for military equipments. Solving a crosstalk problem, he travelled to Greenland to implement a fix for the BMEWS Early Warning Radar. Moving to Laurel, MD, in 1963, he was hired for research and development work at JHU Applied Physics Laboratory. In 1969 he came to Annapolis to work for IIT Research Institute as a research engineer at the Electromagnetic Compatibility Analysis Center. MILCOM Systems Corporation of Arlington, VA, hired David as technical director in the System Integration Department in 1981. In 1989 SENTEL Corporation hired him as senior electronics engineer to provide technical support to the Joint Electromagnetic Interference (JEMI) program. His final employment in 1992 was as Senior EMC Engineer with R & B Enterprises, with retirement in 1995.
He was a forty-one year member of First Presbyterian Church where he served a term as trustee. He was a life member of IEEE.
David spent many weekends sailing, especially racing Penguins, Windmills, and Jet 14s on the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed photography, skiing, playing bridge, and genealogy. During his retirement, he volunteered for the YWCA of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County and was presented their service award. He also provided care for his mother-in-law during her final four years.
A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, on Wednesday, October 19 at 2 p. m., with reception and visitation afterward in McBee Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will be private.
