Robert E. "Bob" Hadding Sr., 85, died at 11:55 p.m. Oct. 4, 2011, at Lost Creek Care Center. He was born May 29, 1926, in Lima to Eugene F. and Mary Alice Yant Hadding, who preceded him in death. On July 27, 1947, he married Helen E. Bicknell, who died May 20, 1985. Mr. Hadding was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel after 30 years, where he was known as "Red." He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and had been a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and American Legion Post 96. He enjoyed bowling and had been on a team for the Beer Barrel. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Deb) Hadding Jr. and Roger (Darlene) Smith, both of Lima; two brothers, Walter Hadding, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and John Hadding, of Grant, Mich.; two half brothers, Gary Hadding and Gerald Hadding, both of Lima; two half sisters, Rhoda Williamson, of Cedartown, Ga., and Kathleen Williams, of Bunkey, La.; and six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Homer; and a half sister, Mary. Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lost Creek Care Center.
