Mr. Robert F. Randall, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 64.

Robert Frederick Randall was born on October 21, 1946 in Malden, one of three children of the late Frederick B. Randall and Ruth F. (Scanlan) Randall.

Raised in Revere, Bob graduated from Immaculate Conception School in Revere and majored in business at Northeastern University. He worked for Verizon for 37 years, retiring in 2003 as a telecommunications engineer.

Bob was a big New England sports fan, loved travelling with his wife, and going to the beach. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneer club and volunteered as a YMCA basketball coach. Bob enjoyed being a handyman and was known to have many home projects nearly completed.

A generous, patient and funny man, Bob will be remembered for being one of the nicest guys anyone ever met. He was passionate about his family, always put them first, and will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Bob was the beloved husband of Diane M. (Glancy) Randall with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. Devoted father of Robert P. Randall of Melrose, and Lindsay R. Clifton and her husband Jeremy of Baltimore, MD. Loving grandfather of Finley B. Clifton. Dear son of the late Frederick B. and Ruth F. Randall and cherished son-in-law of Dora M. Glancy of Everett and the late Albert F. Glancy. Dear brother of Ruth Sentas and her husband John of Lynnfield and Stephen Randall of Lynnfield. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, July 26 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Bob’s life in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-8 PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

Gifts in his honor may be made to Mass General Hospital, Robert F. Randall Fund, 165 Cambridge St., Ste. 600, Boston, MA 02114.
