Mr. Robert I. Meck, 89, formerly of 615 Chickory Spring Court, Waynesboro, died at Quincy Village at 1:09 AM on November 30, 2011 He had been critically ill for the past month. Born December 11, 1921 in Brunnerville, PA, in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Simon R. and Eva (Furlowe) Meck. He entered Quincy Orphanage at age 5. Mr. Meck attended Quincy Schools and learned the bakery trade at the orphanage. He served with the US Army in the Pacific Theater from April 10, 1942 to January 14, 1947. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He and his wife, Mary Edith (Kauffman) Meck, were married August 20, 1960 in Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro. They lived on Sunset Ave from 1980 until moving to Chickory Spring Court in 2000. Following discharge from the military he was employed with Wayne Baker in Waynesboro until 1955. He then went to work as the Director of Franklin County Veteran's Affairs, Chambersburg for 39 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and Acacia Lodge #586, F.& A.M., both of Waynesboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Jackson and Rosella Turner; two brothers, Theodore Eugene Meck, and a twin brother at 18 months. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 6, 2011, in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro with Rev. Mark Shover officiating.
