Robert (Bob) J. Gries, 69, of Evansville, IN went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March, 12, 2011. He was at home surrounded by family. Bob was born on Dec.15, 1941, the son of Joseph Gries (deceased) and Cecilia Scheller Gries. He was a man dedicated to serving God and serving others. He was an accountant and retired from Plumbing & Industrial Supply Co. after 29 years of service. He also was a volunteer doing taxes for the elderly through the Tax Aide program. Bob graduated from Mater Dei High School and Indiana State University. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed coaching Instructional League baseball at East Park for 30 years. He helped his wife Ann with Community Marriage Builders. He was also a caregiver for "Cookie" Bratton. Bob is survived by his wife, Dr. Ann (Stephens) Gries, mother, Cecilia (Scheller) Gries, daughter, Amy (Brian) Kerney, son, Andrew (Sherry) Gries, grandchildren; Joseph and Elizabeth Kerney, and Audrey Gries, brothers; Paul (Mary) Gries, Don (Margaret) Gries, Dave (Sue) Gries, sisters; Mary Jane (Ernie Bradley), Diane (Jim Sides), Rose (David) Duncan, and Donna (Larry) McDonald, brothers-in-law; Bob Stephens and Linda Evinger, and Bryan (Mary)Stephens, sisters-in-law; Pauline (Jim) Kothe, Jane (Mark) Hachert, Kim (Dr. Robert) Morgan, mother-in-law, Elizabeth Stephens Camp, many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Joseph B. Gries. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15th, at Ziemer Funeral Home, East Chapel., 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714. Visitation will continue, Wednesday March 16, 2011 at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Funeral procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln, Avenue, Evansville, IN, on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 with Father Gregory Chamberlain and Pastor Dave Schwambach officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Marriage Builders, 1229 Bellemeade Ave. Evansville, IN 47714, or Evansville Jr. Golf Association, Bob Gries Grant. 2239 Ridge Crest, Evansville, IN 47711.
