COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Robert Jacob (Jake) Zeman, 35, will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Shandon United Methodist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Robert Jacob (Jake) Zeman was born on November 10, 1977. He was the loving husband of Erin Middlebrooks Zeman and the adoring father of Jackson Robert Zeman. On November 9, 2013, after running the race of his life, the Savannah Rock N Roll Marathon, Jake suddenly collapsed due to an unsuspected heart condition. As always, Erin was right by his side to let him know he was her hero.
Jake graduated from Dreher High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from the College of Charleston. With his God-given talent, he could draw anything, but his most favorite was drawing portraits.
In June 2009, he met Erin, the love of his life. They were married on March 13, 2010. They chose to make their home in Columbia where they could share all of their many joys with their family and friends. They welcomed their beautiful son Jack on February 9, 2011.
A friend to many, Jake was a kind and gentle man and was always eager to please those he knew and loved. He was employed by the University of South Carolina Facilities Planning and Programming office as an information resource consultant. Together with his parents, sister, Erin and Jack, he proudly supported Carolina and the Gamecocks.
In 2012, with Erin cheering him on from the sidelines, he ran the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, DC. He had discovered his passion for running and began training for the Rock N Roll Marathon. He was in the best shape of his life and had the support of his family and friends all around him. What Jake cared about most were his wife and son. His family and friends were a close second.
Jake was predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. F.T. Zeman, and Mr. and Mrs. William Robert Clegg; cousins Allison Clegg and Luke Comer.
In addition to Erin and Jack, Jake is survived by his parents, Robert and Terri; his sister whom he adored, Keri Lynn Zeman; aunts, uncles, and cousins; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tommy and Brandy Middlebrooks; his sister –in-law and brother-in-law, Neely and Dwight Cathcart and their children, Emma Heyward and Brooks; additional family and friends acquired through marriage; his dog, Mick; and many friends all of whom will miss him more than words could ever express.
Memorials may be made to Merrill Lynch, c/o Jan Middlebrooks for Erin and Jack, 1224 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
