Mr. Robert Lee Burgess was born in Kingstree, South Carolina to Cora Pendergrass Burgess and the late Peter R. Burgess on November 15, 1940. He made his transition on Saturday, September 8, 2012. He graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1958. After working at the United States Post Office for a brief time, he was called to serve his country in Vietnam from 1966 until 1968. Completing his tour of duty, he returned to employment with the United States Postal Service in New York City. After many years of dedicated services he retired, and later relocated to Florence, South Carolina. Robert leaves to cherished his precious memories: two daughters, Melba Cassandra Brown and Hope Burgess both of Bronx, NY; two sons, Samuel Robert Lee Burgess of Chester, SC and Richardson (Connie) Burgess of Woodlyn, PA; nine grandchildren; two great-grand children; his dear mother, Mrs. Cora P. Burgess; two sisters, Agnes Strong and Sue C. (Henry) Fulton, all of Florence, SC; a special cousin, Phillip Fulton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Robert was a joyful, fun loving guy who loved to crack jokes. He had a BIG heart and referred to himself as the BIG 'B' as in Burgess.
