Rev. Robert Lee Miller, 71, of North Little Rock, (Marche Community) departed this life peacefully in his sleep, to be with the Lord on Monday morning December 19, 2011 at Baptist Health Little Rock. Rev. Miller was born December 26, 1938. Preceding him in death was his father Nathaniel Miller and mother Louise Miller. He is survived by his loving wife, Dora Miller; two daughters Arnessa (Larry) Bennett of Maumelle, Bettye Harris of North Little Rock; three grandchildren, Henry (Marie) Toliver III of Little Rock, Dominic Harris of North Little Rock, and Marissa Harris of North Little Rock, one great-grandchild Ivan Toliver of Little Rock. His favorite and beloved Aunt, Derenda L. Alexander, and a host of loved cousins. In addition, great life long friends from the Vietnam War, Germany, the U.S. Army, the Arkansas Health Department, and Future Builders.
Rev. Robert Lee Miller was born in Atlanta, Georgia and soon moved to Arkansas and was raised in the Rixey community of North Little Rock. He entered the U. S. Army in 1958 while in the U.S. Army he received orders to the Vietnam War and a tour to Germany. He received many decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations, and campaign ribbons while in the military, earning the rank of SSG E6. After retiring from the military, he worked in Germany as a mechanical consultant. Later return to Little Rock, where he continued his education earning a Bachelor of Science in Recreation from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1985, and a Master of Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1986. He worked at Corner Stone a non-profit organization, and later the Arkansas Health Department where he retired.
For fun, Rev. Miller enjoyed sports. He was an international certified swimming coach for the "Special Olympics". Official "Golden Glove of America" certified referee. A Athletic Officials Association, certified referee for softball, basketball, football, and boxing. In addition, he loved to fish from his boat.
He was a member long time member of Holly Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church. He became a local Deacon in 2004 by the First Episcopal District. In 2007, he became a local Elder by Senior Bishop William H. Graves, First Episcopal District.
The memorial service for Rev. Robert Lee Miller will be, Monday December 26, 2011, at 11a.m., at New Life C.M.E. Church, 7329 Burnside Drive, North Little Rock, (Marche Community) Rev. Patsy A. Wright, Pastor 501-834-7559.
