Robert Nelson Torres, 74, of the 2200 block of Windy Pines Bend, Virginia Beach, VA, passed away April 15, 2011, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Plattsburg, New York, he was the son of the late Jesus and Tomasa Torres. He retired from the Washington D.C. Police Department as a Detective after 21 years of service and also retired from the U.S. Customs Service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and an Air Force veteran. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Evelyn Jean Torres; a daughter, Sara Dawn Torres of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Doug Bailey of Tennessee; a sister, Daisy Martin of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, John Torres and wife Judith of Youngsville, NC and Sigfredo Torres and wife Dora of New York; and two grandchildren, Alexis Bailey and Cole Bailey. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Park with Rev. Father Joseph Slattery officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA.
