Robert V. Hess, 80, of Mishawaka, passed away unexpectedly in his residence on July 5, 2012. Robert was born in Goshen, IN to the late George B. and Hazel B. (Berry) Hess on June 5, 1932. On August 23, 1980 he married Carolyn L. DeRose, she preceded him in death on May 24, 2011. Robert was a decorated veteran, who served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. Robert was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW post 985 in Goshen. He was a past Exulted Ruler of Elk Lodge 235 in South Bend. Robert is survived by three sons: Douglas (Linda) Hess, of San Antonio, TX, Daniel (Bonnie) Hess, of Elkhart, IN, and Bradley Hess, of Mishawaka. He was a grandfather of four: Garrett, Brianna, Rachel, and Rebeka. He also had four step-grandchildren: Tommy Hancock, Ryan Hilderbrand, Christen Staples, and Nancy Friedman. He is also survived by his nine siblings: Noble (Arlene) Hess, of Elkhart, Kennth (Grace) Hess, of Englewood, FL, George Hess, of Elkhart, Paul (Jennifer) Hess, of Goshen, Joseph (Judy) Hess, of Elkhart, Arthur (Beverly) Hess, of Englewood, FL, Michael (Deborah) Hess, of St. Joseph, MI, Scydell (Robert) Hartman, of Elkhart, and Cathy (Steven) Dukes, of Rogersville, TN. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 11th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., from 4 until 8pm, and one hour prior to the mass in the church, on Thursday. At 6pm Wednesday, the Elk Lodge 235 will conduct their service in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, on Thursday, July 12th, at 10am, with Fr. Jeffery Largent officiating. Entombment is to follow in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
