Robert Wainwright Plasterer, 87, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010. He was born June 22, 1922 in Huntington, to Richard and Myrtle (Lee) Plasterer. He moved to Fort Wayne in 1929, and graduated from North Side High School in 1941. He fell in love with the girl next door, Helen Shaffer, and married her on August 30, 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He retired from GE in 1982 after more than 41 years of service. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul parish for 50 years, serving in many areas of ministry, and was a member of American Legion Post 47. His family was always his primary focus; he was an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life. Robert is survived by his sons, Richard (Robin) of Churubusco, and Michael (Debbie) of Ossian; daughters, Janet (Joey) McBride of Goodyear, AZ, and Barbara (Kevin) Kellogg of Fort Wayne; brother, Allen (Jackie) of New Haven; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 64 years; sons Robert Jr., Ronnie, Scott and Anthony; daughters, Rose Anne, Laura, and Mary Beth; and sisters, Glenna Armey, and Marylin Glover. "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings...where never lark, or even eagle flew-and while with silent lifting mind I've trod, the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God. "-"High Flight"-Magee. Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Road with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road with Vigil at 3:30 p.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
