Robert Wayne Burton, 68, of Owensboro, Kentucky died at home on December 21, 2009. He was born on August 18, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN to the late R.L. Burton and Ima Doris Winstead Burton. He grew up in Wheatcroft, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Burton, in 2000. Wayne was retired from Burns Middle School in Daviess County. He also taught at Webster County High School and Tyrone Middle School in St. Petersburg, FL and was employed at Audubon Elementary School for five years. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, reading, friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Norma Hayden Burton; a daughter and son-in-law, April Burton Duncanson and Dr. Phil Duncanson of Indianapolis; and his siblings, Debra Burton Meadows of Henderson, KY and Roger Mack Burton of Wheatcroft. Funeral Services are at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Western Kentucky or to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church.
