Shelly Gilliam was born on September 30, 1937, as Rochelle Dean, in Afton, Wyoming to June Sessions Dean and Robert Wells Dean. She had 3 sisters – Diana, Rosalie and Marie. Shelly attended Star Valley High School, and then married George Orin Murray in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1954. Their son, Glade Murray (alias Gilliam), was born in 1955. They later divorced and she married Douglas Brose Gilliam in Salt Lake City in 1958. Their daughter, Vicki LeAnn Gilliam Walker was born in 1959. The Gilliam family experienced life in several cities in Utah, Wyoming and California. Shelly and Doug were divorced in 1974. Shelly married Lynn Green in 1976 - he had 4 little boys – Ralph, Robert (deceased in 1980), George and Tracy. Shelly and Lynn were divorced in 1981. Shelly worked for Verizon (formerly GTE) in Salt Lake City, then transferred to Dallas, where she lived for 15 years before retiring in 1999. She moved from Dallas back to Utah, settling in Tooele, where she spent her remaining years. She loved making yo-yo quilts and wanted everyone in the family to have one. She had collections of all sorts - - owls, pigs, cats, chickens, ducks, mice, rabbits and numerous other such things. She loved photographs, especially the old ones from her ancestors. Shelly loved her friends and kept friends for life. Many of her best friends have preceded her in death, but she has kept close contact with those she is leaving behind. Her sisters, Marie and Rosalie are also numbered among her best friends. Shelly was best known for her quick wit, sharp tongue and her mastery of the 'expletive' language. She could make a sailor blush! Her sense of humor will be remembered by everyone who knew her. Shelly will be loved and missed by all who knew her best. Shelly was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Diana, and her baby brother (stillborn). She is survived by her son Glade Murray (Heidrun), daughter Vicki Walker (Mark), 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters Rosalie Kelsey (Steve), Marie Johnson (Jim), and numerous nieces and nephews. An informal visitation for family and close friends will be on Wednesday, December 23 at the Russon Mortuary (255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City) from 10:00 until the Memorial Service begins at 11:00 am.
