Mr. Rodman S. Griffin, a Saugus resident and formerly of Wakefield, passed away at the Bedford VA Medical Center on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the age of 82.
Mr. Griffin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 8, 1928, one of three children of the late Sidney Griffin and Lillian (Johnson) Griffin.
He graduated from Melrose High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Boston University. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Following active duty, he continued his service in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Colonel in 1978. During his free time, Rod enjoyed golfing, skiing, watching the Celtics, and proudly rooting against the other Boston sports teams.
Rodman S. Griffin was the loving husband of June B. (Reed) Griffin. Devoted father of Roderick S. “Rick” Griffin and his wife Patricia McCormack of Malden, and the late Barbara Anne Welford and her husband John of Seabrook, NH. Dear brother of Adrienne Genova and her husband Donald of Centerville and Jeanne Urquhart of FL. Dear cousin of Beverly Thibeau and her husband Gil of TX. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service at Glenwood Cemetery, Washington Ave., Everett on Friday, May 27 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
